Mis queridos playólogos, hoy os quiero llevar hasta el extremo norte de Mallorca, a las playas preferidas de los pintores Sorolla y Rusiñol. Se trata de cala Sant Vicenç y sus cuatro preciosas calitas, a donde hay que ir ni que sea una vez en la vida, y preferiblemente en uno de esos días de verano en que no sopla viento del norte, porque solo así te encontrarás la mejor cara de esta enorme y sugerente piscina natural que es Cala Sant Vicent. Así que apuntároslo: no vengáis a cala Sant Vicent con mar de fondo o vientos fuertes del N si no es para hacer fotos de las enormes olas que se levantan.

Y, hablando de fotos, no vais a dejar de disparar hacia la Serra del Cavall Bernat, esa tremenda cola de saurio que se alza con la mayor de las verticalidades de la isla y que tanto fascinó a los pintores Sorolla y Rusiñol. Y para cuando te canses de admirarla, ponte el bañador y disfruta, que a eso hemos venido. Empecemos por los chapuzones en cualquiera de las cuatro playas de cala Sant Vicent.
Las de cala Barques, cala Clara y Cala Molins son las tres playas domadas, las tomadas por los turistas, de arena fina y casi todos los servicios. Pero luego está mi preferida, la más auténtica, la más isleña, que es cala Carbó, la cala de los varaderos con las barcas encaramadas en la roca, la cala repleta de grandes cantos y piedras como bolos, pero con unos fondos de arena y rocas preciosos, perfectos para bucear y para disfrutar de la otra Mallorca.

Y hablando de disfrutar, te recomiendo tener una experiencia vital, que es la de alquilar un kayak y explorar toda esta porción de litoral precisamente desde aquí, desde Cala Sant Vicent. Y para los que os guste caminar, sabed que desde cala Sant Vicent hay varias opciones, algunas muy sencillas y muy atractivas, como el precioso Camí de Coves Blanques, una pista que se construyó en 1940 por presos republicanos con la finalidad de levantar una batería de costa. El camino llega hasta una preciosa punta al pie de un espectacular acantilado vertical y hasta las cuevas labradas en la roca donde se iba a construir la batería de costa. Las vistas desde aquí son preciosas, y el camino es muy liviano, pues discurre por una pista en buen estado y sin apenas desnivel.

Otra excursión muy sencilla y agradable consiste en hacer el camino que va del Port de Pollença a cala Carbó, donde te puedes dar el consabido chapuzón antes de volver a tiempo para comer en el Celler la Parra, el mejor restaurante de cocina auténticamente mallorquina del Port de Pollença (al menos para mi).

My dear beach lovers, today I want to take you to the extreme north of Mallorca, to the favorite beaches of the painters Sorolla and Rusiñol. It is Cala Sant Vicenç and its four beautiful coves, where you have to go at least once in your life, and preferably on one of those summer days when there is no north wind blowing, because only then you will find the best side of this huge and suggestive natural pool that is Cala Sant Vicent. So write it down: do not come to Cala Sant Vicent with sea or strong winds from the N if it is not to take pictures of the huge waves that rise.

And, speaking of photos, you are not going to stop shooting towards the Serra del Cavall Bernat, that tremendous saurian tail that rises with the greatest verticality of the island and that so fascinated the painters Sorolla and Rusiñol. And when you get tired of admiring it, put on your swimsuit and enjoy, that's what we have come for. Let's start with a dip in any of the four beaches of cala Sant Vicent.
Cala Barques, Cala Clara and Cala Molins are the three tamed beaches, the ones taken by tourists, with fine sand and almost all services. But then there is my favorite, the most authentic, the most islander, which is Cala Carbó, the cove of the dry docks with the boats perched on the rock, the cove full of large pebbles and stones like skittles, but with beautiful sandy bottoms and rocks, perfect for diving and to enjoy the other Mallorca.

And speaking of enjoying, I recommend you to have a vital experience, which is to rent a kayak and explore all this portion of coastline precisely from here, from Cala Sant Vicent. And for those of you who like walking, know that from Cala Sant Vicent there are several options, some very simple and very attractive, such as the beautiful Camí de Coves Blanques, a track that was built in 1940 by Republican prisoners in order to build a coastal battery. The path leads to a beautiful point at the foot of a spectacular vertical cliff and to the caves carved into the rock where the coastal battery was to be built. The views from here are beautiful, and the path is very light, as it runs along a track in good condition and with little slope.

Another very easy and pleasant excursion is to walk from Port de Pollença to Cala Carbó, where you can take the usual dip before returning in time for lunch at Celler la Parra, the best restaurant of authentic Mallorcan cuisine in Port de Pollença (at least for me).

Mis queridos playólogos, os propongo visitar Portocolom, el histórico puerto que tiene muchísimos secretos que conocer y un montón de experiencias que disfrutar. Y lo mejor de todo es que hay plan para todos, tanto para familias con niños como para parejitas de enamorados.

Empezando por los más pequeños. Pregúntales a ver qué les parece eso de nadar hasta una divertidísima plataforma flotante y saltar al agua desde los toboganes... Aquí la mar es como una enorme piscina, ya que la playa se encuentra dentro del puerto natural y nunca -o casi nunca- hay oleaje. Así que los papás estaremos la mar de tranquilos... Tranquilos... y super agustito, sobre todo porque vamos a poder estar tomándonos algo sentados en el chiringuito que hay en la misma playa sin perder de vista a los peques. Y además porque se come bien en esta playa que es la playa de los vecinos, de los isleños de toda la vida, ya que la playa de los turistas es la de cala Marçal, que se encuentra suficientemente alejada de aquí como para no sentirse extranjero en tu propia casa.
Por cierto, que si vais en plan de pareja ya te digo yo que quedarse a cenar en el chiringuito de s’Arenal Gran no es mala idea. ¡Planazo romántico!

Pero escuchad, que antes de sentarse a cenar hay que darse un paseo por el puerto al atardecer y hacer miles y miles de fotos. Y hablando de fotos, vais a tener que haceros un selfie con el arco natural más famoso de Portocolom. Se trata de sa Cova Foradada, donde podréis haceros la foto enmarcados con el precioso faro de Portocolom justo detrás...

Y hablando del faro, no se si sabéis que fue ocupado por militares alemanes en 1937 y que los torreros hacían sonar caracolas para avisar de los naufragios. La vista desde cualquier sitio de la bahía siempre se para sobre el faro, que es precioso y súper fotogénico.
Otro planazo es alquilar un kayak para explorar el puerto y los alrededores desde el mar. Y no te digo ya si le regalas a tu pareja la experiencia de recorrer el puerto y las calas cercanas navegando en la embarcación clásica de Llaüt Mallorca. Os enamoraréis escuchando las interesantes explicaciones del patrón.

Porque Portocolom, mis queridos playólogos, da mucho que hablar. Esta gran dolina que acabó siendo inundada por el mar siempre tuvo fama de puerto seguro. Por eso a principios del siglo pasado era normal ver hidroaviones, si, si, hidroaviones, amarrados aquí compartiendo espacio con los llauts de vela latina. Fueron el catalán Angel Orté y el mallorquin Francesc Oliver Billoch quienes fundaron aquí la primera escuela de aviación. El puerto también era muy famoso por aquel entonces por ser donde se embarcaban los famosos vinos de Felanitx con destino a Francia. Los carros se alineaban cargados con las barricas en filas de varios cientos. Así que imaginaros el trajín que se vivía aquí.

Y ya para terminar bien frescos, a los más aventureros les recomiendo darse un chapuzón en s’Algar, que es la cala virgen más cercana a Portocolom, donde resulta más que recomendable llevarse las gafas y el tubo para disfrutar buceando.

Quiet... and super comfortable, especially because we will be able to have a drink sitting at the beach bar on the beach without losing sight of the kids. And also because you eat well on this beach which is the beach of the neighbors, of the islanders of all life, since the beach of the tourists is the beach of Cala Marçal, which is far enough away from here so as not to feel a foreigner in your own home.
By the way, if you are going as a couple I tell you that staying for dinner at the chiringuito of s'Arenal Gran is not a bad idea. Romantic plan!

But listen, before sitting down to dinner, you have to take a walk around the port at sunset and take thousands and thousands of photos. And speaking of the lighthouse, I don't know if you know that it was occupied by the German military in 1937 and that the lighthouse keepers used to sound conch shells to warn of shipwrecks. The view from anywhere in the bay always stops on the lighthouse, which is beautiful and super photogenic.
Another great plan is to rent a kayak to explore the harbor and surroundings from the sea. Not to mention if you give your partner the experience of touring the harbor and nearby coves sailing on the classic Llaüt Mallorca boat. You will fall in love listening to the interesting explanations of the skipper.

Because Portocolom, my dear playologists, gives a lot to talk about. This great dolina that ended up being flooded by the sea has always had a reputation as a safe harbor. That is why at the beginning of the last century it was normal to see seaplanes, yes, yes, seaplanes, moored here sharing space with the lateen sail llauts. It was the Catalan Angel Orté and the Mallorcan Francesc Oliver Billoch who founded the first aviation school here. The port was also very famous at that time for being where the famous Felanitx wines were shipped to France. The wagons were lined up loaded with barrels in rows of several hundred. So imagine the hustle and bustle here.

And to finish well refreshed, for the more adventurous I recommend a dip in s'Algar, which is the closest virgin cove to Portocolom, where it is more than advisable to take your goggles and snorkel to enjoy diving.

Mis queridos playólogos hoy os propongo disfrutar de Cala Tuent, una de las playas más alpinas (y máas bellas) de Mallorca, ya que está apostada a los pies del Puig Major, en pleno corazón de la serra de Tramuntana, y además está rodeada por una especie de anfiteatro rocoso espectacular.
Y la vamos a disfrutar de todas las maneras posibles, tanto para ir en familia y con los peques como en pareja o con los amigos. Tanto para sudar y hacer deporte como para gozarla como los señoritos, con todos los lujos y las comodidades.

Pero... antes de nada quiero que sepáis por qué os la recomiendo:
Porque es, sin duda, una de mis playas favoritas y uno de los lugares más bellos de Mallorca, una de esas perlas de las que sentirse muy orgulloso. Uno de esos lugares a los que hay que ir sí o sí ni que sea por una vez en la vida. Y si eres de los afortunados que viven en esta isla tan maravillosa que sepas que es el lugar perfecto para llevar a quien quieras sorprender. Para presumir. Ya sabes: ¡Para alardear! Porque en este pedacito de Sa Roqueta tan mimado por la naturaleza (así es como llamamos los isleños a nuestra querida Mallorca) la vista adquiere alas y vuela sobre un paraje que te deja mudo, porque no deja nada que desear ni que imaginar.
No obstante, os puedo asegurar que todo cuanto quieras soñar aquí ya lo creó la naturaleza, de la que te vas a empachar como nunca.

Y bien. Este es mi plan. Tomar nota:
Os voy a proponer una opción que gustará muchísimo a aquellos que no quieran complicarse la vida conduciendo por la carretera más famosa (y tediosa) de Mallorca, que es la que llega hasta Sa Calobra y que poco antes se desvía hacia Cala Tuent. Ya sabeis: la del Nus de Sa Corbata y las colas interminables de coches de alquiler. Mi sugerencia es llegar hasta la cala navegando: sí sí, en barco. Disfrutando de las vistas de la costa desde una golondrina turística que sale del Port de Sóller y que recorre este precioso tramo de costa repleto de cuevas interesantes, torrentes que se lanzan al mar encajados entre la montaña, una cascadita, una antigua central eléctrica abandonada y hasta una curiosa roca que asoma entre el agua con forma de seta. Y ya veréis cuando lleguéis a la cala y estéis a punto de desembarcar para pasar la mañana paseando y buceando.
Por cierto, llevaros gafas y tubo porque los fondos son espectaculares. Impresionantes las rocas submarinas y las praderas de posidonia. Y también, que sepáis que en el mismo Port de Soller se pueden alquilar lanchitas sin titulación, kayaks y hasta tablas de paddle sup.

Y para después del baño, que seguro que os entra el apetito, os propongo subir a comerse una paellita y a disfrutar de las vistas desde la terraza del único restaurante que os vais a encontrar por allí. Esto para los que hayáis olvidado el bocata y el tupper. Para los de la mochila al hombro y a los que os guste caminar, explorar y sudar un poquito esta es mi propuesta:
¿Qué os parece si subimos caminando hasta la torre de Sa Mola de Tuent para hacernos una foto junto al cañón? Esta torre está a 472 m sobre el nivel del mar, y tiene unas vistas espectaculares. Ya lo se: vais a tener que sudar, pero merece mucho la pena. Si no queréis esforzaros tanto os propongo subir hasta la otra torre de cala Tuent, la torre de la Punta des Forat, en el otro extremo de la cala, que está peor conservada y es menos popular, pues apenas si se conoce, pero que está mucho más cercana y que no tiene tanto desnivel que salvar.

Si os quedan ganas de seguir caminando después de haber explorado esta última torre os propongo acercaros hasta la Font des Verger por el precioso y famosísimo camí de Sa Costera que discurre casi siempre a la sombra, para daros una ducha salvaje y natural en una cascadita que forma junto al mar, y así de paso conocéis Sa Fábrica, una central hidroeléctrica abandonada que aprovechando las aguas de la fuente surtía de energía eléctrica a Sóller entre los años 1908 y 1962. Ahora se aprovecha el agua para consumo humano, que es bombeada hasta Sóller, pero en el s. XIX empujaba los martillos de una fragua que producía arrabio de una mina cercana.

Otra curiosidad, aunque mucho más macabra, es que en cala Tuent fue abatida a tiros la última foca monje de la isla. Corría el año 1958 y por aquel entonces las focas estaban consideradas como una mala bestia, ya que hacían la competencia a los pescadores al romper las redes y comer las capturas que quedaban prendadas en ellas.

My dear playologists, today I propose you to enjoy Cala Tuent, one of the most alpine (and most beautiful) beaches in Mallorca, as it is located at the foot of Puig Major, in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, and it is also surrounded by a kind of spectacular rocky amphitheater.

Because it is, without a doubt, one of my favorite beaches and one of the most beautiful places in Mallorca, one of those pearls to be very proud of. One of those places where you have to go for once in your life. And if you are one of the lucky ones who live on this wonderful island, you should know that it is the perfect place to take whoever you want to surprise. To show off. You know: To show off! Because in this little piece of Sa Roqueta so pampered by nature (that's how we islanders call our beloved Mallorca) the view takes wings and flies over a place that leaves you speechless, because it leaves nothing to be desired or imagined.
However, I can assure you that everything you want to dream here has already been created by nature, and you will be filled with it like never before.

So, this is my plan. This is my plan. Take note:
I am going to propose you an option that will please a lot those who do not want to complicate their lives driving along the most famous (and tedious) road of Mallorca, which is the one that goes to Sa Calobra and that shortly before turns off to Cala Tuent. You know: the Nus de Sa Corbata and the endless queues of rental cars. My suggestion is to get to the cove sailing: yes, yes, by boat. Enjoying the views of the coast from a tourist swallow that leaves from Port de Sóller and runs along this beautiful stretch of coastline full of interesting caves, streams that plunge into the sea wedged between the mountains, a waterfall, an old abandoned power plant and even a curious rock that peeks through the water in the shape of a mushroom. And you will see when you get to the cove and you are about to disembark to spend the morning walking and diving.
By the way, bring goggles and snorkel because the bottoms are spectacular. Impressive underwater rocks and posidonia meadows. And also, you should know that in the same Port de Soller you can rent small boats without qualifications, kayaks and even paddle boards.

And after the swim, which will surely give you an appetite, I suggest you go up to eat a paella and enjoy the views from the terrace of the only restaurant you are going to find there. This for those of you who have forgotten your sandwich and tupper. For those of you with a backpack on your shoulder and those of you who like to walk, explore and sweat a little, this is my proposal:
How about walking up to the tower of Sa Mola de Tuent to take a picture next to the canyon? This tower is 472 m above sea level, and has spectacular views. I know: you are going to have to sweat, but it is worth it. If you don't want to make such an effort, I suggest you climb up to the other tower of Tuent cove, the tower of Punta des Forat, at the other end of the cove, which is less well preserved and less popular, as it is hardly known, but it is much closer and does not have so much unevenness to overcome.

If you feel like continuing walking after having explored this last tower, I suggest you go to the Font des Verger by the beautiful and famous camí de Sa Costera, which runs almost always in the shade, to take a wild and natural shower in a small waterfall that forms next to the sea, and at the same time you can visit Sa Fábrica, an abandoned hydroelectric plant that used to supply electricity to Sóller between 1908 and 1962, taking advantage of the waters of the spring. Now the water is used for human consumption, which is pumped to Sóller, but in the 19th century it pushed the hammers of a forge that produced pig iron from a nearby mine.

Another curiosity, although much more macabre, is that the last monk seal on the island was shot in Cala Tuent. The year was 1958 and at that time the seals were considered a bad beast, as they competed with the fishermen by breaking the nets and eating the catches that were caught in them.

  Si alguien tuviera la amabilidad de preguntarme sobre cómo disfrutar de Menorca de todas (o casi) las maneras posibles, en el menor tiempo y partiendo desde un único lugar, le recomendaría Es Grau. Este pueblecito marinero es, para mi, el mejor punto de partida para disfrutar de Menorca de las seis mejores formas: remando, nadando, caminando, "espiando" y poniendo el "cucu" al sol. ¡Y de terraceo, claro! Por eso te tengo preparados estos seis planazos aptos para todos los públicos, tanto si te gusta hacer algo de deporte como si prefieres holgazanear tumbado en la arena y viendo las nubes pasar. Hay planes para parejas y para familias con niños pequeños. Para curiosos, naturalistas, compositores de estampas y hasta nudistas. ¿Me dejas que te lleve?

En Es Grau se encuentra la puerta de entrada a s'Albufera de Es Grau, el mayor humedal de Menorca. Vas a disfrutar muchísimo del paseo que hay habilitado hasta varios miradores desde los que asomarse a "espiar" la grandísima variedad de aves acuáticas que descansan aquí. Te voy a presentar una de las mejores rutas senderistas de la isla y el paseo en kayak para principiantes más fácil y satisfactorio. También te voy a descubrir mi playita más secreta y solitaria, para que puedas gozar como Dios te trajo al mundo. Y, para finalizar el día, te llevaré hasta una terraza (la situada a menor altitud de toda Menorca) apostada en el mejor sitio del mundo para los que nos corre el salitre por las venas: justo al nivel del mar. ¡Zarpamos!

Mis seis planazos para todos los públicos.

1- Tu primera experiencia náutica:

Llegar en kayak (o en lanchita de alquiler) hasta la Illa d'en Colom cual descubridor colombino.

Si nunca lo habías hecho antes... (lo de montar en kayak): ¡este es el mejor sitio! Prueba y verás: alquila una lancha o un kayak en Es Grau (aquí se encuentra uno de los mejores spots para embarcar y disfrutar del kayak y/o paddle sup de toda la isla) y verás qué fácil es tomar la isla de los piratas y sus dos preciosas calas salvajes cual descubridor colombino. En Es Grau hay al menos una empresa de alquiler de kayaks que, además, organiza cursos y rutas guiadas, así como la vuelta entera a la isla. Y también se puede alquilar una pequeña embarcación a motor sin falta de titulación. La travesía hasta la Illa d'en Colom es muy fácil y descansada, pues apenas hay mil metros de recorrido hasta las playas. Ya verás cuando estés sobre las aguas diáfanas del Pas, tal te parecerá estar levitando sobre polvo dorado y turquesas líquidas. Y cuando llegues y desembarques tendrás ante ti su arena blanca y pura, su carita virginal y cuantos tesoros oculta tras sus centenarios tamarindos. Sinceramente (y te lo digo con pleno conocimiento), de todas las excursiones en kayak de mar que puedes hacer en España esta es una de las 10 mejores travesías, especialmente para hacerla en familia cualquier tarde de verano y con poca experiencia y/o fondo físico.

Alquilar un kayak es una actividad que puede hacer cualquiera, pues no se requiere más que saber nadar. Y en Es Grau se encuentra uno de los mejores destinos para probar la experiencia. Manejar un kayak es mucho más fácil y placentero de lo que pudiera parecer. Y más seguro y sencillo que una tabla de SUP. ¿Te animas a probarlo? © El Playólogo/Maremecum

2- Sanadores baños de ola:

Disfrutar con tu bebé en una de las playas más seguras y protegidas del norte de Menorca.

Cuando llegues a Es Grau acércate hasta la playa principal paseando por su apetecible pasarela de madera. La construyeron para badear el torrente que irriga la albufera y facilita mucho el tránsito con sillitas de bebé. Y, ahora, prepárate, porque estoy seguro que no lo podrás evitar: descalzarte y dedicarte a pasear y pasear a la orilla del mar. Y disfrutar viendo feliz al pequeñín de la familia sabiendo que estás en la playa más segura de Menorca. Ya verás como notas que el agua está más caliente de lo normal, que apenas llegan olitas y que caminas y caminas y parece que nunca vayas a dejar de hacer pie. ¡Es el lugar perfecto para los primeros baños de tu bebé!

3- Senderismo para todos los públicos:

Recorrer uno de los tramos más bellos del Camí de Cavalls.

A Es Grau hay que venir no solo por sus playas, sino por todo lo que tiene para ver y gozar. Desde aquí podrás comenzar a caminar por una de las rutas más interesantes del Camí de Cavalls: la etapa nº 2, la que llega hasta el Cap de Favàritx (donde podrás tomar un taxi que te traiga de vuelta) después de unos 8,6 km de recorrido, pasando por alguna de las playas más hermosas de la isla, como Cala Rambla, Morella y Presili.

El Camí de Cavalls consta de veinte etapas, pero no todas son igual de atractivas. La etapa número dos es una de las más bonitas. 4- Birdwatching, o el arte de espiar a los pájaros cantores (o buceadores):

Disfrutar paseando por la albufera más famosa de Menorca.

A parte del famoso camino de los caballos, tienes tres itinerarios trazados alrededor de la Albufera de Es Grau, que pasa por ser el mayor humedal de Menorca y uno de los más importantes de las Islas Baleares. Es una auténtica delicia pasear por sus pasarelas de madera y asomarse a los miradores a última hora de la tarde, cuando mejor se ve a todas esas aves acuáticas felices viendo las nubes del cielo pasar reflejándose en el agua. Tal parece que estés en otro mundo, en un mundo donde nada se sabe del hormigón ni del desarrollismo salvaje. ¡Esto es la auténtica Menorca amigo mío!

5- Nudismo en estado puro:

Rincones secretos para poner el "cucu" al sol, pero sin espectadores.

Y si te quieres remojar como Dios te trajo al mundo (¡en pelota, vamos!) en una cala virgen y remota de la que casi nadie sabe, tienes que descubrir las playitas de Na Solitaria, justo frente a la isla de Colom pero en tierra firme, para que no tengas ni que remar. Aquí solo hay (cuando la hay, porque las corrientes son muy caprichosas) arena fina y aguas cristalinas del color de las turquesas. Soledad y el silencio más absoluto (no en vano se las conoce como la solitaria). Y unas vistas privilegiadas de la isla de Colom.

Playitas como estas son un verdadero milagro fruto de los caprichos de la mar. Hay años en que las corrientes se las llevan de la noche a la mañana, y entonces es cuando llegas y te llevas el chasco de tu vida. Pero otras veces ocurre lo contrario: que donde menos te lo esperas emerge una nueva playita. De todas formas siempre te quedará el gustazo de disolverte en estas aguas puras cual sirena (o cachalote ;-).m © El Playólogo/Maremecum

Pero antes de llegar a las playas de Na Solitaria te toparás con En Vidrier y su ancestral casita a la vera del mar (casas de vorera donde anar a vega, que dicen los isleños), de esas para envidiar. La playita se encuentra fuera de la ruta más habitual entre los turistas, el sendero que llega hasta el mítico faro de Favàritx, aunque siempre hay quien se desvía y acaba descubriendo el lugar. Igual ya te apetece despelotarte aquí...

6- Terraceo post playa:

Para sentarse a la mesa sin perder la vista del horizonte.

Es cierto que si me preguntas sobre dónde comer bien en Menorca es Grau no se postula como uno de mis lugares favoritos. Fornells, Cales Fonts, Ciutadella, etc. son rivales muy difíciles de vencer (y no te digo ya el restaurante del Cap Roig, de camino hacia aquí). Pero si me preguntas por dónde está la terraza con la que soñaríamos todos los que nos consideramos marinos te diría, sin dudarlo, que es esta. Te sabrá a gloria bendita lo de cenar viendo tu barco fondeado en el horizonte y oyendo el arrullo del mar a tus pies, con la embarcación auxiliar amarrada a dos metros de tí y el dorado atardecer acariciando la tez morena del amor de tu vida... Eso, amigo mío, es lo que te hará prescindir de las valoraciones púramente gastronómicas.

If someone would be kind enough to ask me how to enjoy Menorca in all (or almost) the possible ways, in the shortest time and starting from a single place, I would recommend Es Grau. This little fishing village is, for me, the best starting point to enjoy Menorca in the six best ways: paddling, swimming, walking, "spying" and "cuckooing" in the sun. And terracing, of course! That's why I have prepared these six great plans suitable for everyone, whether you like to do some sport or if you prefer to laze on the sand and watch the clouds go by. I am going to introduce you to one of the best hiking trails on the island and the easiest and most satisfying kayak tour for beginners. I'm also going to show you my most secret and lonely beach, so you can enjoy as God brought you to the world. And, to end the day, I'll take you to a terrace (the lowest in Menorca) located in the best place in the world for those of us with salt water running through our veins: right at sea level. Let's set sail!

My six great plans for everyone.

1- Your first nautical experience:

Kayak (or rent a boat) to the Illa d'en Colom as if you were a Columbus discoverer.

If you've never done it before... (kayaking): this is the best place! Try it and see: rent a boat or a kayak in Es Grau (here is one of the best spots to embark and enjoy kayaking and / or paddle sup of the whole island) and you will see how easy it is to take the island of pirates and its two beautiful wild coves as a discoverer colombino. In Es Grau there is at least one kayak rental company that also organizes courses and guided routes, as well as the whole round of the island. It is also possible to rent a small motor boat without a license. The crossing to the Illa d'en Colom is very easy and relaxed, as there is barely a thousand meters to the beaches. You will see when you are on the diaphanous waters of the Pas, you will seem to be levitating on golden dust and liquid turquoise. And when you arrive and disembark you will have before you its pure white sand, its virginal face and how many treasures it hides behind its centenary tamarinds. Sincerely (and I say this with full knowledge), of all the sea kayaking excursions you can do in Spain this is one of the 10 best trips, especially to do with the family any summer afternoon and with little experience and / or physical background.

Renting a kayak is an activity that anyone can do, since you only need to know how to swim. And Es Grau is one of the best destinations to try the experience. 2- Healing wave baths:

Enjoy with your baby in one of the safest and most protected beaches in the north of Menorca.

When you arrive at Es Grau, go to the main beach walking along its attractive wooden walkway. It was built to cross the stream that irrigates the lagoon and facilitates the transit with baby strollers. And now, get ready, because I'm sure you won't be able to avoid it: take your shoes off and take a walk and stroll along the seashore. And enjoy watching the little one of the family happy knowing that you are in the safest beach in Menorca. You will notice that the water is warmer than normal, that there are hardly any waves and that you walk and walk and it seems that you will never stop walking. It is the perfect place for your baby's first baths!

3- Hiking for everyone:

You have to come to Es Grau not only for its beaches, but for everything it has to see and enjoy.From here you can start walking along one of the most interesting routes of the Camí de Cavalls: stage 2, which reaches Cap de Favàritx (where you can take a cab to bring you back) after about 8.6 km, passing by some of the most beautiful beaches of the island, such as Cala Rambla, Morella and Presili .

4- Birdwatching, or the art of spying on songbirds (or divers):

Enjoy strolling through Menorca's most famous lagoon.

Apart from the famous horse trail, you have three itineraries around the Albufera de Es Grau, which happens to be the largest wetland of Menorca and one of the most important of the Balearic Islands. It is a real delight to walk along its wooden walkways and look out over the viewpoints in the late afternoon, when you can best see all those happy waterfowl watching the clouds in the sky pass by reflecting on the water. You seem to be in another world, in a world where nothing is known about concrete or wild developmentalism, this is the real Menorca my friend!

5- Nudism in its purest form:

Secret corners to put the "cuckoo" in the sun, but without spectators.

And if you want to soak as God brought you into the world (on a ball, come on!) in a remote and virgin cove that almost nobody knows about, you have to discover The little beaches of Na SolitariaJust in front of the island of Colom but on the mainland, so you don't even have to paddle. Here there is only (when there is, because the currents are very capricious) fine sand and crystal clear waters the color of turquoise. Solitude and absolute silence (not in vain is known as the solitary). And privileged views of the island of Colom.

Beaches like these are a true miracle fruit of the whims of the sea. There are years in which the currents take them overnight, and then it is when you arrive and you take the disappointment of your life. But other times the opposite happens: where you least expect it, a new beach emerges. But before reaching the beaches of Na Solitaria you will come across En Vidrier and its ancestral cottage by the sea (casas de vorera donde anar a vega, as the islanders say), one of those to envy. The beach is off the most common route among tourists, the path that leads to the legendary Favàritx lighthouse, although there are always those who deviate and end up discovering the place. Maybe you already feel like getting naked here?

It is true that if you ask me where to eat well in Menorca , es Grau is not one of my favorite places. Fornells, Cales Fonts, Ciutadella, etc. are very difficult rivals to beat (not to mention the Cap Roig restaurant on the way here). But if you ask me where is the terrace that all of us who consider ourselves seafarers would dream of, I would tell you, without hesitation, that this is it. It will taste like holy glory to dine watching your boat anchored on the horizon and listening to the lullaby of the sea at your feet, with the dinghy moored two meters away from you and the golden sunset caressing the brown complexion of the love of your life? That, my friend, is what will make you dispense with purely gastronomic evaluations.
